The 400-hour design story

A better mug born out of little annoyances.

Ashley kept noticing the same little annoyances: handles that only fit two fingers, mugs that became too hot in the microwave, and bases that were awkward to grip on the way into the dishwasher. The design started there.

  • The rim was shaped around the sip, not only the silhouette.
  • The tapered base gives your hand a natural place to hold it.
  • The handle fits three fingers and curves inward so you can cup the mug with both hands.
  • The satin-matte glaze feels smooth without becoming glossy or slippery.

Designed around touch

You notice the handle first. Then everything else.

The rim, handle, base, and glaze each do a different job. Together, they make the mug easier to hold, easier to heat, and easier to live with.

Grip

Hold it the way you naturally would.

Use the full handle, cup the side, or support the tapered base. Each grip feels intentional instead of improvised.

Finish

A finish made for real life.

The satin-matte ivory glaze feels special in your hands, then goes straight into the microwave or dishwasher.

Ritual

The one that stays out on the counter.

It looks at home beside the coffee machine and works hard enough to be used again tomorrow morning.

How it was made

From hand-thrown prototypes to the mug you see now.

A few early ideas failed. That was useful. Each attempt made the mug more consistent without losing what felt so good about the first hand-thrown versions.

01 / Notice

We started with the annoyances.

Handles that pinched, bodies that overheated, and shapes that fought you at the dishwasher became the first design brief.

02 / Throw

We hand-threw the first versions.

Those mugs had warmth and personality. They also varied too much from one piece to the next for the experience to feel dependable.

03 / Press

We built one form from our favorites.

We combined the best prototypes into a mold, tried slip casting, and moved to ram pressing when the first production method did not work.

04 / Finish

We high-fired and finished each mug by hand.

The cone-10 body is pressed for consistency, then given an extruded handle and multiple coats of hand-sprayed lead-free glaze.

Why it costs more

Here is where the $45 goes.

The extra work shows up in the places you actually notice: the handle, the rim, the microwave, the dishwasher, and whether you reach for it again tomorrow.

In your hand

No two-finger pinch.

The handle fits three fingers, curves inward for a two-handed hold, and keeps a comfortable temperature during normal microwave use.

In your routine

The mug that can take a beating.

Use it, heat it, leave it on the counter, and put it in the dishwasher. The design was made for repetition.

In the gift box

Familiar, with a story worth telling.

Easy to give and considered enough to become the mug they reach for every morning.

She bought two and kept both for herself. After a few more arrived, the family and the guests were finally allowed to use them too.

Good to know

Questions people ask before they buy.

Here is what to know about using it, returning it, or handling a damaged delivery.

Will it get hot in the microwave?

The mug was high-fired to cone 10, which helps create a denser ceramic body. Ashley specifically designed it so the handle stays comfortable during normal microwave use.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes. The mug is designed for daily use, including the dishwasher, rather than occasional display.

Does it work as a gift?

Yes. The design story makes it feel more personal than a generic mug, while the familiar size and daily usability keep it easy to give.

What if it arrives damaged?

Contact Âme Atendre and they will arrange a refund or exchange for a defective or damaged mug.

Can I return it?

Eligible items can be returned within 14 days of purchase when they are new, unused, and in the original packaging. Return shipping is the customer's responsibility. Read the complete return policy.

Why does this cost more than a regular mug?

The price reflects the prototyping, mold development, ram pressing, high-fire ceramic body, lead-free glaze, and the refinement of every touch point.

Made for the quiet part of the morning

The one you will reach for tomorrow, too.

It fits beneath the coffee machine, looks at home on the counter, and feels just as right with the paper as it does with a slow cup of tea.
